about

This is a poem from the chapbook I made with Illustrator Lily Armstrong-Davies. If you want a copy of our little book, click the merch tab above. We'd love to send you one. Turn up the volume, it's a pretty quiet recording.

lyrics

Earth Day

Endless sorrow
Endless trouble
We’ve always been Her careless children
So, sit down quiet, calm your mind
Sit on your hands and listen now:

Think what it is to live on nectar Like the goddess hummingbird
Or to burrow down
In a flower crown
Like the bumbles I have heard

Maybe think to be
A wolf alone
Running silent, deep in snow
Look up, look up
The moon is full
She runs to see her shadow

Think what it is
To take our place
And no more space In this fair land
How can it be you cannot see
We are the trouble Child
And while our Mother loves us yet
She has lost her patience

Still, one more dance
A hill of flowers
One more walk beside the sea
One more day,
She gives us freely
To be alive a gift, a glory.
