about

Laura's Song is the first of three songs and a poem about my best friend Laura Anne Greene. I met her when we were in the fourth grade. She died young and hard and she is always so strong around me on every 11/11 which is the day she was born in all her glory.

special thanks to Rachel Woodward for taking on the harmony part.

lyrics

laura's song

In my dreams, you walk through that front door
a bright penny, the one that we've been waiting for
your shining face your mouth already moving with a story
that only you could tell

I told my self that I hadn't missed the sound of your feet
on my front steps or your chatter or complaining
about your mom, your school, your brother
but you see I've known and loved you all of your short life
and I miss everything about you

I stand just clear of the circle of your light, the light you made
when you walked into a room
I'm standing here waiting for a word or more
from you.
